I'm wanting to set up outdoor enclosures for my tegus once I move out my dad's house, but had one question...
Fireflies/Lightning Bugs are pretty common around here and I know they are toxic to reptiles...is there a risk of one of my tegus eating one? I'm really scared they will. I lost a bearded dragon a few years back because he got a hold of one that got into the house. It was devastating, and I don't want it to ever happen again.

If you want a cheap but effective fix, just lay a large piece of bug netting overr the whole enclosure. When you want to take the tegu/s out, just take off the bug netting. You could even just weigh down the edges of the tarp with stones or really hold it down with metal/plastic stakes.

No problem. Make sure you get a really fine netting, because those little buggers can squeeze their way through almost anything.

As for the toxicity on a tegu's system, I know nothing about that.....sorry.
