Breeding your own feeders

While Sevs been down for the winter his dubia colony I started has doubled in size. In my spare time over the holidays I made some DIY rat enclosure and got a pair of male/female rats. Plan to keep a small breeding population for Sevs whole prey diet. Anyone else have any luck breeding your own feeders? I like the idea of knowing what his prey item ate and how it was treated/kept for its short life. My last order from Rodent pro half of small rats looked skinny/sickly.

I can’t take the the rodent “fragrance”! Soory to hear about your experience wih Rodent Pro. Have had good luck buind med mice from Rodent Pro. I use them to feed my adults. The med. mice are sufficiently loaded with calcium ynlike old or very young. Also, tegus really do better with lots of small pieces than one or two big things.

Thanks for the info Walter I'll keep that in mind maybe start a mice colony as well my basement has the space. The rats were for the snakes so I was hoping to hit two birds with one stone lol

Keep good ventilation and realize that in heat of summer, productivity will lessen.
