Hi all, does anyone know the lifespan of an ackie. Yellow Ackie to be specific. One of mine (male) died overnight. He was definitely overweight. He was only 5.5 yrs old. I have a call into my dog and cat vet to see if he wants to cut him open and take a look. My thoughts are either heart attack or blockage of some sort. :(

I cannot seem to find any lifespan info online.

Thank you,
Carole

I have had them live to 7 years old, but I have heard 15 years. I do not think it is that long.

Thanks Bobby. I think 5.5 is a bit young but after we cut him open and saw the massive fat deposits its clear that his massive weight was at least a huge contributing factor. Do yourselves a favor everyone, watch how much you feed to young ackies. Once that weight is on its hard to get off. :(

I completely disagree with it being abnormal for ackies to live to 15. Well, let me rephrase that, it's completely normal, because keepers usually don't have proper conditions in their enclosures. A good healthy ackie can hit 12 easily.
