A common question: tegu diet (and vitamins)

Hi,

Like i said in another forum I am a new owner of a tegu that I bought last month. (S)he's growing nicely and as it does I'm pondering about it's diet.

I feed it once a day at around 3 PM. Right now I feed it ground turkey about 4 days a week, and either crickets or superworms on the other days. Every once in awhile I'll give it some grapes. But he's starting to get too big for crickets (he can tear apart 40+ no problem) and the superworms are right behind.

So I guess my question is what is the ideal diet for a tegu under 2 years old? I assume ground turkey is the staple. But naturally it has to have a least a couple different meals to insure optimal vitamin intake. What are the key foods to avoid?

Speaking of vitamins right now I use a Rep-Cal Herptivite and Rep-Cal Calcium (without D3) mix. I'll either sprinkle the vatimins over the ground turkey or I'll coat the crickets.

Was I right to go with the calcium with no D3? I saw a vid on youtube about this poor tegu that only got calcium suppliments with D3 and it was in terrible shape. I think it was also subjected to improper lighting. I have my tegu set up with a 100 watt active UV heat lamp by T-Rex

Also, how often should I add the suppliments to his meals? Right now I add once every two days.

I know it's a lot of questions and probably ones that are asked every other week, but i'm just trying to make sure my tegu grows up healthy. :-D

Many thanks!!
