Did you know that a Tegu is the only known lizard to build a nest? It is a true fact. They build a nest with their front feet. Working hard at pushing grass, and leaves together with their front feet. Not only a nest, but one with a two part nest chamber. The bottom layer is for incubating the eggs. The upper chamber is for the female to guard her nest. It is also said that they consume large amounts of water to mosten her clutch. The female will guard these eggs with her life.

That is true, the females will also brood the clutch if given the chance. She will incubate her eggs and protect the young, much like a croc does.
