I was still wondering if a red tegu would be an ok starter. From what I've been reading the argentine b/w's are most tame, the reds being closer behind but they're generally more shy.
I don't mind having a shy lizard but I still want to handle it. The argentine b/w's seem to be more social and seem to sort of "thrive" with human contact... Not sure if thrives the word I'm looking for but its the only one coming to mind
I have a wooden enclosure that I'm planning on using, it has sliding (locking) glass doors with 2 uvb/florescent fixtures (4 tubes total) as well as one spot for a basking bulb, another could easily be added if needed but I don't think it would be necessary. The enclosure is roughly 7.5ft x 3ft x 3ft. I know its not quite as large are some of the enclosures out there but I do plan on letting my future tegu out a few times a day to stretch out. I've been looking at varnyard, that seems to be the place to go for tegus. Like I said, I'm not in a rush, I want to make sure I have everything and the proper knowledge before getting one. Thanks in advance for your help.
