Our unproven female Blue died today. We had taken a few of the reptiles outside for some natural sun. It's about 80 degrees and very comfortable. She was walking in a shaded area and just stopped. Didn't have her mouth open or panting. the wife is very upset since she was watching her while I worked on the enclosures.

My condolences,..have you thought of doing a Necropsy to try and find out why? Idk how much it would cost where you are but it may be cheaper at a local College or University then a Vet. Just in case it was something she may have caught, came with (and didn't show up until now) or gotten into that, could have been passed on to the other tegus.

That's a tough thing to deal with, Dave...I'm so sorry. She certainly didn't overheat at 80...besides, for an apparently healthy animal to 'just stop' with no symptoms, doesn't point any fingers at anyone. A necropsy is a great idea IMO....might answer the question. Perhaps, for example, a congenital heart defect. Seemingly healthy 25 year old humans aren't reasonably expected to be walking along on a nice day and 'just stop' either, but it can and does happen. I feel for ya, Dave..for both of you.

Thanks everyone. I buried her the next day. Hurt my back digging the hole (wife had to finish, I couldn't get off of the bed) and missed 2 days of work.
