Cage defensive adult male tegu

so my about 3 foot male argentine tegu is cage defensive if thats the definition im looking for. he puffs up if i go near him. i can pet him a little but he huffs and puffs and chuffs and will walk away. sometimmes if I scare him(on accident) he may turn quick and he flicks his tongue a lot. he is just scared of me i know and he likes my t shirts but he just isn't a fan of me so i was wondering any tips on taming a larger tegu?

Maybe put a towel or blanket over part of his enclosure so you aren't as apt to scare him. That will help when you're approaching him and his enclosure. Just be patient and keep working with him.

lately i have been able to pet him. some days he gets up tall and walks off and other days he just takes it. any more tips or good progress?

and he also knows if he sits in the back or walks to the back i cant really reach him. darn his intelligence

i just don't know how to get him out to work with him, give him baths, etc
