Hello,

I'm form the netherlands and I was looking for blue tegus for a long time. Finally I found 2 blue tegus! But I want to know what the you guys think of it. De female looks like a hybride to me... She has red dots on her back and a orange belly.
I was not there wen we got them becouse I was in Spain on facation. My boyfriend was there but he does not know a lot of tegus. So I could never say to the man that is does not look like a blue tegu... I paid a lot of money so I hope I am wrong... The man said the female is 3 years old and te male is form 2011.

its hard to say , they do vary any way, not all blues are high white, both my blues have some orange on there bellies, but on the top one is coco couloured & one is a real strong blue, ive seen many blues with this orange colour, but without seing the parents we will never no for sure. they sure are beutiful though.

The male is definitely blue. The female looks blue to me, she seems to have the right characteristics. I think if she is a hybrid it is probably a very small percentage of something other than blue. Other hybrids I've seen seem to have speckling of red (or whatever its mixed with) around the legs.

I have always wondered if the coloring on the belly could sometimes be because of the substrate they are kept on. My black and white seemed to get a little more orange after switching substrates. It could have been coincidental. They are gorgeous though.

Congrats on the new additions :), they're both Blue tegus. I highly doubt the female is a hybrid, the orange belly is normal coloration with some tegus. But unless you know the breeder she came from there's no way you'll find out for sure.

You have some beautiful tegus! They both look blue to me. I actually have a male and female from the same B/W clutch and my male shows no orange and my female has a ton! I have seen both parents and grandparents and they are 100% B/W so it could just be a coloring thing.

They both are GREAT looking lizards . I don't know if the female is hybrid or not but if she is, the vast majority of her genes seem to be from blue from what is visible . And for the orange coloring on the belly I have noticed when they come out hibernation the color is there until they shed a few times .

i agree, very blue tegu-ish structure and patterns. the blue on the heads are pretty darn good indicators too. as i understand it, orange is just a common color variation on the belly. some I've seen have pure orange bellies! and their clutch mates none. you're females awesome, but the male is spectacular! your bf did well. :p

Very common (almost the norm.) for a female tegu to have orange/yellow on her underside. Many, if not most do. It is much more rare to find a male that does. They both look full blue to me.

Thanks guys! I'm happy to hear that!
I realy love them. Especialy the male. He is very tame for a jong animal. The female is kind of a *****. But she needs time te get as tame as my other tegus.

@YeKiM: Thanks!
I have a question. People here in the netherlands say the blues are illegale becouse they come from brazil and they are closed for export. Is that true?

They are probably referring to the ban on import and export between countries without a permit. It is possible to get CITES paperwork to import and export Tegus but it costs a lot of money. As it does not sound like you were not trying to import/export the animals between countries, this wouldn't apply to you. As for any other concerns with legality, you'd want to check your local laws.
