Vet Checkups

I was wondering if any of you take your tegu in for regular veterinary checkups. Is it worth the stress on the lizard or do you only take yours in when they are showing signs of illness.

If I do take my tegu in for a checkup are there any tests in particular I should make sure they run. I do have an exotics vet, however, I don't think she has particular experience with tegus so I'm not sure what to ask.

If it matters my tegu is about 7 months / 30" and appears to be in perfect health so far. I'm almost thinking I should bring him in if only to get the vet comfortable with him before he gets any bigger.

I think you should find a vet with reptile experience. You may want to have his stool checked every now and then for parasites. Sometimes a small amount of parasites is not a serious problem. Wild reptiles all have a few.

I did a base line exam, ie a wellness exam. This was so the vet could get to know Bosco when he is healthy and we could gt blood values to compare if anything should come up. That was three years ago and he hasn't been to the vet since. The vet said I could bring him in but if there is nothing wrong with him best to just leave him be.
