Hello everyone. We have a 7 lb. B&W Argentine Tegu who we have had for about a half a year now. This past week my bf and I had noticed that he was kind of walking funny and checked out all of his limbs to see if he would show signs of pain or feel if anything was wrong. He didn't seem to mind too much and he didn't really show signs of a limb all the time. Since we didn't know what it could be from we decided to just keep an eye on it to see if it persists.

Just yesterday he came out to bask and his arm was noticeably limp so we immediately made an appointment and got this xray this am. They gave me Metacam (an anti - inflammatory) to give him to try and make him feel a little better for the time being.

Was looking into surgery and was just wondering if anyone out there has had gone through something similar, any advice out there or best recovery practices. Anything will be appreciated. thanks in advance. Feel horrible he is so hurt up.

I'm sorry to hear that. Animals are so much more resilient and pain tolerant than humans. Best of luck. I don't have any personal experience in this area, but I'm sure it will work out well with the assistance of a knowledgeable vet.

Update..

KunGu (I'm not very clever with names) is taking his oral medication well. Good thing for us turkey is so appetizing. He has a complete right humerus fracture and after reviewing the xrays further it looks like it doesn't impact the joint so hopefully we can pin it. I am not sure how long he has been dealing with the break before we noticed it last thursday because he has been limping a bit for about a week. I don't think it was broken at that point but can not be sure. When we took him out Thursday he has lost all ability to walk on his arm, though it is not completely limp. He does try to balance himself. Poor thing, you can see very clearly in his eyes he is in pain and knows he is vulnerable.

The exotic vet I hope to take him to is out until Thursday :( if anyone knows of other herp vets in the eastern Massachusetts area that would be a great help. (Northeastern CT and southern NH is always an option too) Also I am curious if anyone knows how they behave in recovery. If a cast is necessary or if he's going to have his leg tapped to his side. We are really hoping we can save the limb. Fingers crossed folks!

Here are the pictures of the xrays. The non herp vet said his bone density looks very good (which was a huge concern of mine when I found out the bone was broken)

Not something I have any experience with either but there are a few threads on here from people who had similar issues. In the meantime and just in case they miss this thread type fracture into the search engine in the top right corner and read through some of those threads.

Thanks Sarefina for all your prayers!
Bubblz, I have checked out the other forums in regards to amputation and fracture. It's too bad there isn't more information out there about large reptile fractures that don't have to do with toes (not that toes aren't important). Taking him out to go to the bathroom and feed him today was really sad. He fell over at one point. My heart is breaking for my little man!

We (my bf and I) were looking at baby pictures today trying not to feel like too terrible of parents.
