i agree with reptastic. in the wild tegus have no boundaries. but handling a tegu living in the wild would be alot harder 2 though lol. from what ive heard placing a baby in a cage that big can make it feel overwhelmed and stressed. especially if it was born in a much smaller enclosure.
I think a small Tegu will enjoy the space. However I think it would be better if the Tegus is somewhat tame so that he/she comes to you then you open. I think it can be hard to get the Tegu if it's still running from you.
I think it's to big for a hatchling. But what you can do is put a divider in the enclosure to make it smaller and as time goes by you can make it a bit bigger.
