Ok....so in my collection I have a few vegans. I've got 2 (soon to be 3) iguanas, a russian tortoise and beardies. I also have rabbits, rats and mice that love greens.

Have any of you had any luck with feeding frozen greens when you run out of fresh?

It seems I"m always going to the store. I usually buy like 5-10lbs collards, dandelions and mustards, squash, yams etc. at a pop. I shred them up in my food processor and then I put them in ziplock storage bags.

Unfortunately, a good bit of it goes to waste before they eat it all.

It seems that if I cut back how much I get, I run out, if I buy more, I waste a lot.

Have any of you ever frozen your staple foods for emergency use? I know a staple diet of frozen foods is not good for them, but would they be ok to feed periodically when I do run out and before I can get to the store?

If so, how do you guys go about freezing it?

I have a Uromastyx that goes bonkers for canned peas :)

I usually buy a bag of "mixed greens," and if I run out of that, peas are up to bat.

But of course, Uromastyx like to eat dry lentils so that could be why he likes them so much!

Frozen greens go mushy. I have had luck with feeding frozen veggies like green beans. I feed them from the yard if I'm in a pinch. My backyard is chemical free, so I can use dandelion, hibiscus, etc.

Hmm that's a good idea, about feeding from the yard. I've been afraid to feed from my yard because my neighbors DO use chemicals and I'm on a downgrade. I'll try the frozen veggies.

Oh god, the title of the post scared me so much for a second. XD I've worked in pet food before, and seen way too many people trying to claim their naturally carnivorous cat or dog was vegan.

On topic, have you considered starting a small garden? You could start growing some of what your lizards need, instead of going to the store :)

That's a thought too, during the summer months. I wish I lived somewhere where I could grow a year round garden. PA winters arent' conduscive to year around growth :(

Cut up the collard and dry them totally and put them in a zip lock u gotta squeeze all the air out and it usually last me 1 1/2 weeks don't mix anything with it veggies and everything mix allready goes bad and to mush always keep a damp paper towel on the top later damp not soaking wet same for the potatoes, squash has to be fresh tho it freezes nasty lol don't ever mix allready keep it in different bags with no air. Works for me

I second or third the garden idea. It's pretty easy to grow some greens.
