Tegu Wake Up Call?

So, my tegu spends the majority of his/her time in his burrow now that I have replaced the wood chips with soil that will hold shape. Like, he will spend the entire day in there and not come out at all. S/He is about 6-7 months old.

I've checked my husbandry and read some other threads similar on here but I didn't really see my question answered.

My question is should I get him up in the morning? Or should I just leave him be? I guess my concern is that he doesn't realize it's daytime when he's asleep in his burrow.

My Tegu Baragon sleeps all day but ventures out on occasion, you just might have a lazy Tegu, which is fine. Because your Tegu is the Tegu Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs.

This has got to be the best reply I've ever read on this forum lol

I wake MacGyver up every mornning at 9. The first few times he was not very happy, but now it works out fine.

They are very defensive when they are woken up though, so I don't try to pick him up / take him out of his hide, or even let him lick me. I just move my hand around slowly in his substrate until I get close enough to him that the movement wakes him up. As soon as he starts moving I take my hand out and leave him alone. 10 minutes later he comes out of the hide on his own to go bask. He just needs a few minutes to wake up completely so he isn't freaked out.

They don't need to be woken up, they are highly intelligent animals and know when/if they need to be out of their burrow/hide.

I guess I am too old to understand. I was answering the OP's question, something that is generally appreciated on forums.
