yeah, i think if you want the grass, you'd be better off with those grass patches if they make them without chemicals, but honestly tegu's are wrecking balls and pretty much rearrange anything and everything at will once they are big enough to move it lol
You 'could ' put potted plants in and bury the pots with substrate. However pots would need to be heavy like clay/ceramic. And maybe even put large stones near the base of the plants so he wouldn't dig them up. Even so, they may get ruined but you could try. Maybe if plant was positioned in a corner for support. (?)
Niles is a lump. he just likes to bury himself under the basking bench. Maybe you could get those "hanging " plants and put them up in the corners, hung from the ceiling or corner beams. they can grow downward like a waterfall but with your luck he'd probably try to climb them and pull them down :/
