porch as enclosure? do you thionk this would work ok. i just thought of the idea. its probably about 8x10x10. that way they have plenty of roam room. and they can get some real uvb/ uva through the windows. the only thing i worry about this idea is that i live in CT and during the winter months it gets really cold. and the sun porch has like zero insulatioin. i guess i9t would MAKE the tegus hibernate. lol but would there be any way to install a heating unit in the cieling to keep this room warm. i still have to talk it over with my dad. im just spitballing ideas. i want your opinions. please respond. thank you so much

Jerry sun rooms could be good as a free roaming area. the windows will filter UV lite so the GU will get heat from the sun but not all the UV. sounds like it would get to cold in winter less as you said put a heater in. if you could keep the temp up 60 degrees in the winter is the temp I hibernate my GUs.

well i was figuring that the windows are about 4 ft higher than the floor so the tegus wouldnt be able to get through the screen so i could open the windows and i t will give more uv exposure. i think the only problem is winter. i will have to talk to my dad about a heating system. do any of you have any good ideas to heat the area of a 10x8 rm to 60 degrees?

This idea could work Jerry, but you will need to modify the area to suit your tegu's needs.

First off, you will need to add a bunch of dirt/substrate and create a deep enough burrow for the tegu to bury itself for hibernation. The porch floor simply will not cut it.

An additional heat source would be nice and if the thing is screened, sunlight will get through fine.

when i get pics i will post pics of the room. its very big! what should i do just lay the substrate on the carpet? i was thinking maybe instead of covering the entire floor with a ft. of substrate that maybe i could create a "home made" burrow. with a tube that goes into a cavity with mulch, dirt exc. and what not. for them to sleep. if youve seen jntanns outdoor enclosure post. something to that effect. that way i dont have to lay that much substrate down. i think it would be simpler to make a homemade burrow.

Jerry sounds like some modifications it will make a great Gu cage. the windows have screening ? I would replace with hard ware cloth [wire] 1/2 inch just a suggestion
