Hi everybody!
I'm from South Africa,25, sorry if my measurements are in cm I'm not very good with converting it.I've had my first tegu for about 6 months now. Her name is Johanna, she's an Argentine Red about 70cm long with I'm guessing about 15cm missing from the tip of her tail. Her nails are kept pretty short by all her digging. She gets her days when she wants to be cuddled and other days where she is not interested in attention at all.About a week ago I finally found her a male but he's much smaller and very skinny in my opinion. His name is Johannes. He is about 60cm long with a full tail and all his toes.

When I introduced them to each other everything went very smoothly and they seem happy. I'm getting a male Argentine black and white in a few days,he was measured at 77cm.So far I think I'm going to keep them separately. Or can I keep them together? I wont let them hybridize I'm totally against it.So will separate them once it's breeding time.

And tips or info would be greatly appreciated since the knowledge of tegus here in South Africa is pretty limited. If you see something I'm doing wrong please tell me so that I can fix it.

[size=small] If you haven't seen this thread yet quarintine any new animnals before introducing them to your own.

You don't know what the male maybe carrying, how he may have been kept or what he was exposed to.

The male is a little underweight for my taste but if you don't want them to breed then keep them seperated. Also keeping them seperate would give the male time to settle in and gain some weight before even thinking about breeding.

Thanks very much. Like I said I got him almost a week ago. But he is eating very well. I am going to let them hibernate this year but it's still nice and hot so there is still time to help him pick up some weight. But thank you again for the advice. I'm going to take all 3 to the vet next week to get checked out. I have separated them like you suggested and he's doing very well. The new one will also be separated like you said.
