Should I disturb her in her hide?

So Tofu (about 2 ft) does not really come out of her hide and I need to feed her. I want to feed her in a separate bin but I cannot get a hold of her (she huffs and tail whips if I try to reach for her/pick her up) I have only had her for about 5 days and I am trying to build up trust with her. I do not want to remove her hide to pick her up if it means I will lose her trust in me (she has allowed me to scritch her chin today, yay!)..what should i do? She seems hungry because she tried to bite the spray bottle I was using to mist her tank today..I do not want her to starve..

Thanks
Tofu and Tricia

It will take her a few weeks to settle in properly, do what you can without aggrevating her too much and taking her from her hide is not a good idea, I know it's hard it'll take time .... Worth it in the end ! I had a good day with Teg today he was being a real good boy but beginning of the week he was a right git ! Good luck !

Thanks for your response, I feel that maybe feeding her in her enclosure with feeding tongs will get her out of her hide and eating, as for right now (since i don't have any tongs) i left a plate of food in her tank. She hasn't come out of her hide yet though to eat it so we shall see..what are your thoughts on this method?

I fed in the tank for a couple weeks to get my girl used to her environment. But she eats in her Ben now! Just takes some longer then others.

It is fine to feed in the enclosure, leave her alone for a couple weeks only going in the enclosure to feed, change water and spot clean. They need time to acclimate to their new home.

Fed Teg in enclosure until he was about 4 months/20 + inches then he got too messy and picking up substrate in his food, I used a bowl and a secondary plate under that to capture any falling food from mouth ! He's been coming out every feed now for last 2 months, twice a day ! :-/ I worried a lot !! Try not too ... It takes time, just like a baby !

Although I'm no expert ! I would not recommend going down the hand/tong feeding method ! Teg got a bit food .... I wouldn't say Aggresive, but excitable with me and he had a nibble at my hand a couple of times, although he knew he was doing wrong !! I swear I could see that in him !! We've gotten out of that routine now ... thus twice a day feeding !!! :-/

I put food in her enclosure today and she came right out to eat it (albeit not all of it)! I have been trying the old shirt in the tank trick and she seems to be more "okay" with me being in there, she even let me pet her under her chin today! Oh for those of you who don't know, I just got her about a week ago and she is supposedly 1.5 almost 2yo.

I guess I got lucky with niles. I held all the tegus they had ( males and females...although I was wanting a male) . I noted how they acted and how they looked at me and seemed to regard being held. Then I picked the nicest one. He is very active and curious, etc but I believe he truly enjoys being held and the interaction. :)
