Lol James, guessing you just realized that...;)

But I do have to add...my little sav actually loves a soak. He doesn't need to...humidity is always at 75-80%....but after I take him out to feed him at night, I put a little warm water in a tupperware dish and spend that time handling and interacting with him for a few minutes. He was missing a few claws when I got him, from a bad shed I'd guess. He's had a great shed since and his color is amazing. The only time he's handled is once a day for feeding and little bath. Otherwise I let him be. He was pretty lethargic when we got him, and now is quite active and lets me know in no uncertain terms if there's something he doesn't like...lol. Puffs up, opens mouth, hisses, etc. I love that little guy! Hey....do you have more than one sav? I would love another but not sure how they'd do together?

I only have one. Savs aren't really my thing, I got it for my kids.

I had always thought they were solitary but I gave my (young) savy to our local reptile man and from what I know hes been housing it with another similar sized savy and they've been doing fine together. He may or may not split them up as the reach adulthood, I have no idea. From what I had read they are solitary in the wild and are only really around each other for breeding.

Thanks dragon! I love this pool because it has a little shade as well, out gets so hot here...don't want to boil the poor guy! But it's so great to get the natural uv. We are going to build a custom outdoor area for him soon...for now we just sit with him for an hour or so.

Great pic... I used to do something very simila rwith mine when he was a baby...

Just something to mention... it takes between 1/8~1/4" of water to filter out 100% of the UVB rays from the sun... I am not saying this to discourage you from giving your Tegu an outdoor soak, just sharing a tid bit of information I've picked up along the way...

Thanks for the tip Toby! Main concern was that the plastic would get hot fast...put a very shallow amount of water in to keep it cool. When it's not a hundred degrees out we could probably leave out the water. We' ve had a miserable hot summer this year. But happy weather for lizards, lol.

I have a 6' round 300 gal rubbermaid tub (horse troft)... which isn't much more than a really thick medium sized kiddie pool...

When my guy was a baby I would put that Tub on a gentle slope in my back yard... then I would put a bit of water in it. This would create half land and half water, with the water getting deeper the farther down hill he went. I then put a couple of obstacles in the center to give him a place to "hide" if he wanted to. I set this up right at the edge of the shadow of a shade tree, so the longer he was outside the more shade he got.

I admit I was very very lucky to have just the right spot in my back yard to create that, but if you are creative enough, you could replicate any of it that your yard doesn't supply.

...if you want to... because what you have now is defintely "good enough"... please don't think I'm criticizing what you have, just sharing what I found worked for me

I will probably get Kodo his own kiddie pool when he gets a bit bigger. When he's at home he gets soaked in the tub but when he's at work I use one of those ginormous Zoo Med water dishes. Your tegu is a little cutie and I love the name Severus. Am I right to assume he's named after a certain Harry Potter villain?

Severus off your finger, lmmfao!!! That's a riot, man. Very clever. Amd there's nothing wrong with being a dork. Kodo's name was concocted by removing the "mo" in Komodo but everyone thinks he's named after the World of Warcraft monster. If you read my signature you can see all teh other silly names I give my animals.

Anti-villain, perhaps? Pseudovillain? Demivillain? Help me out here. :)
