A friend of mine recently gave me a Beautiful Red because he didn't have time to properly take care of him. He looks to be about 2 years old and his temperament is amazing for never being handled. He loves to be held and rubbed and I've seen no signs of any aggression at all. He has a wonderful appetite and will eat almost anything I put in front of him..berries, fruit, meat, fish, and even veggies.

He does however show signs of past health issues. A couple pretty ridged bends in his tail is a sign of past MBD I believe and he is missing several toes. A couple of his toes look like they might have at least two past sheddings that have not come off. I've soaked a lot of it off and have been able to take a lot off just by rubbing him in he water, but a few of the toes have shedding that wont budge no matter how much I seem to soak him. He is so beautiful and I hate for him to suffer or be disfigured further because of this. I have zero experience with Tegus apart from this one. I have a blue tongued skink, a Dumerils monitor, a bunch of leopard geckos and a red bearded dragon and none of them have issues shedding. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is his setup like now? Temps? Humidity? Substrate?

If there is still shed stuck, I would still soak him daily for 30 minutes. I've also heard of people using olive oil with success at aiding in removing stuck shed.

Keep soaking and rubbing the areas with stuck shed, you can apply a little bit of a&d ointment to it to help loosen it up and use tweezers to manually remove the stuck areas.
