I've notice some color differences between this species, like one is really gold and others are black and off white. Is this just locality or what?

You are correct that there is a wide range of color variety within Columbian Tegus. Dealers even refer to some as 'Black and Gold' and others as 'Black and White', though they are all the same species (Tupinambis teguixin).

While every specimen is going to be unique, there is no consistent differences beyond coloration in locatlities/colorations. A Columbian Tegi u is a Columbian Tegu...
