Picked up a new baby the other day. Trying to figure out what color this snake is? He is much lighter than my "normal" BP. These are my first two pythons.....I've always preferred things with eyelids, but found out I actually like these guys!
Looks like it could be a Pastel,.. what was it sold to you as and do you have better pics? Close up head shot,.. the top of the head should be a little lighter than the rest. With some blushing in the darker markings on the body.
Yeah looks like a pastel, but it depends on what it was sold to you as. Because if it was sold to you as a normal then its a normal and if it was sold to you as a pastel then it's more than likely a pastel.
There are plenty of normal ball pythons with light colors and good markings. What did you buy him as? Most breeders provide paper work(Hatch date, size, feeding, morph) so you might want to check that out.
Some better pictures would help to better identify the snake, maybe a vid? Do you have any breeders in your area you could go to and check it out.
My guess would be a pastel or a really good looking normal.Good luck!
I agree wholeheartedly with the previous two posts...
It does look like it could be a pastel. He looks yellow'ish (though so does your hand) He also seems to be showing some blushing (though so do some normal/wild types)...
But as they say, it most likely is what it was sold to you as...
Pastel Ball Pythons sell for 2~3x the price of normal Ball Pythons... so there is no chance that you were sold a Pastel as a normal.
More pics in varying lighting will give us a better idea of what it looks like in 'real life'. Natural sunlight with no flash gives us the best representation...
Well here's the thing....he was a freebie off craigslist. A parent had bought him from a breeder (sigh) for thier two kids (both appeared under 10), who, naturally lost interest in him. I had a want ad up for one and they contacted me and I went and got him. They said they hadn't fed the poor think in about 2 weeks. He GOBBLED the mice immediatly when I got him home.
LOL and before I even got home, I had another text for another freebie (which is my 4ft "normal") that I picked up the next day. I'd had smaller snakes when I was younger, corns and a rat. But I'm not, well...I wasn't a snake person.
All I know is he was from a breeder. I really don't plan on breeding snakes, so it wasn't really important what genes he carries etc. I just think his colors are very pretty and was curious.
I THINK I still have the people's phone number if my crackberry upgrade didn't wipe it out. Will send out a text tomorrow to find out a little more info. Let ya'll know what they say!
Will try to take some better pictures. My cell cam isn't the best but it's what I had on hand. His colors seem to be more on the light caramel side. It's a little cold to do any outside pictures BUT I will see if I can take some when the sun is up in my living room tomorrow! I think....I'm now a snaker too
does look pastel ish to me! but different flashes can cause colors to look weird. i have a normal b/p with a very light head (exactly the same color as my pastel) so you never know it could be normal.. good luck!!!
