I'll be getting my new tegu soon but as of right now, I won't be able to get it's 7' long enclosure for a few months. I was wondering if a sterilite tub would work for a month or two? Not the clear, plastic tubs but the tubs more like this:

I've seen some at many of the local walmarts here. Most of them are usually 36" Long and about 20" Wide. The largest I've seen them was 4 feet long. I was going to modify it a bit and cut out the lid and put some type of screen there so I can sit an MVB on top for heat.

I would try to find a used 40 gallon breeder tank on craigslist. I wouldn't take the chance with the very hot MVB bulbs and a plastic tub. Are you getting a baby?

Yup. It's a baby. I've still been searching craigslist though. Not having much look. I've came across a few 4'x2'x2' enclosures though. I just contacted a new listed ad with one for sale for $50. I'm hoping I can get it. Just waiting for the poster to email me :)

I am using a 4x2x2 currently for a 27" female. She is quite happy. Your baby will be able to use it for 6 or more months bases upon it's growth rate. Your's will grow fairly fast if you get it soon. I got my girl in Octobber so she hibernated for a couple of months.

i think the tubs work great for up to a 2 foot tegu or so. i use the small kids swimming pools i like them because they are easy to clean not heavy like glass and dont rot like wood.

I agree with Tommy Boy. Those lights can get VERY hot and I would not want any sort of plastic fumes around my baby tegu.
