Kirby seems to only care for mice he will take a quail every now and then and will pick at his ground rabbit but for the most part ONLY eats mice is this a problem?

I would say no. Especially since he is a baby. I believe that like monitors, tegus can get the MAJORITY of their diet from whole prey items. He is a baby, and in my experience they tend to be more carnivorous during that stage in their live. I am quite sure he will be more open to accepting more food items in the future. They do need fruit also, although I don't buy the 50% fruit theory, but as I said I think he is okay due to his age. Keep offering small portions of other food items. Try some roaches maybe?

Variety,.. they get complacent and picky just like we do at times. If you have to stop feeding him for a few days to get him interested in other foods and learn to be less picky and more oppourtunistic like they're suppose to be, then do so.

I have a hard time not feeding :-/ their tummies are like puppies and get so small I know he's not underweight because his tail base is massive but I panic he will get sick if he doesn't eat he won't even consider insects I've tried roaches, night crawlers, crickets, supers, and meals and he turns his nose up at them the other day I only offered him the rabbit with bone and organs from hare today and nothing else he picked at it and took a few bites but then stopped eating so all he had that day way 2-3 bites and I left him in the closet with the food for 3-4 hours he just decided he wanted to nap on my lap/back

Not feeding for a few days won't do any harm. As long as they're healthy with enough fat reserves they can go weeks with out eating. Especially when they start to slow down. They eat when they're hungry and or need to.

exactly...igs get like this, too. Babies do need more protein, but continue to offer a variety of fruits as well.
