Indoor enclosure ideas

Hello everyone,

I am fairly green to argentines, I owned a columbian who passed away on me this winter. I dont know exactly what happened, he was awesome though, unbelievably tame. The family went away for a few days and while we were gone the heat lamp went out and he passed away. The basement was in the mid 60's so it really threw me for a loop as to how this could happen, but I guess it is possible there were other underlying conditions. Diet was always a problem with him, the only thing he would eat was soft boiled eggs.

Anyways, I am taking home a baby argentine b/w soon. I am trading bearded dragon eggs for them, once the guy I am trading them with is convinced they are viable (proabbly next week). I have a 40b for him pretty much set up, I just need to get the lights. I had some (reptile specific) bark for the substrate along with a hide, and a painting tray for a water dish. I will definitely be adding to this once I get the heat situated. My main concern though is ideas for housing. I have a dresser that is 6'wx2'd that I will be extending another 1 or 2 feet. I am limited on space so I will be making a couple levels. I will make the lower level a tunnel, then above that will be the main level with atleast a 6x3 floor splace, then a partial level above that. Basically a ramp up to a basking area. I will then have a coil uvb bulb and a heat lamp above the basking area. And an intake and exhaust fan to help regulte temp. I plan on rigging a humidifier and hooking both the tegu and my chinese water dragons up to it. Then a deep water bowl.

Does this sound good for a final housing for the big guy or will I need something more? I read mixed things, atleast 6x3x3, but most set ups I see even 8x4's have a ton of stuff in the cage, taking up space. I think with the different levels he or she will have plenty of room to roam, burrow, and bask. Do you all agree? And I welcome any questions, concerns, or criticism.

Thanks, John

depending on how big your tegu actually gets and how much time is spent in the enclosure, it could work!a 6x3x3 enclosure will only work if your tegu is let out of it, its to small for an adult tegu to live in all day everyday w/o exercise. having multiple levels probably is a waste of your time since most tegus wont climb, i only say probably because one of my tegus will climb any and everything from beds to the sofa. but if setup right that dresser could house your tegu up untill he/she is 2-3' (although 3' would really be pushing it) good luck hope all goes well with you new tegu! oh and welcome aboard >.<
