Housing Question

Hey all, I've got a B&W Tegu, but I'm also expecting a red as well, so my housing situation has unexpectedly gotten a bit more interesting. I live in a pretty small place, I can probably manage a 6X3 footprint on an enclosure, but that seems a bit small for two, what is the opinion on having two 6X3 enclosures stacked? Ideally I'd house them in one until they got a little bigger then build the second. The question really is, should I connect the two or start housing them separately? The other question is, will this work at all?

It seems that most people that house them together have no problem. However there are the few that fight and 1 recently killed the other. Stacking them would fine. If they do get along you can connect them and put a hole that they can go from top to bottom or bottom to top. That could be pretty cool

Thanks for the response :) That's good to know, since they're both only a few months old they're pretty small ATM, so starting them in the one enclosure should be sufficient for a while. I just wanted to make sure that with that designed I'd be giving them enough space to move around without tripping all over each other once they got older.

One more question on this topic, should I build it 2' or 2.5' tall? I'm planning on mounting the light fixture on the inside (a MegaRay), would a 2' height be sufficient or is that going to put the light way too close to the tegus?

2' feet should be fine. You might even need to raise the basking site depending on the wattage of the light. I use a temp gun to monitor temps and alter accordingly

Sweet, good to know, at 2' a piece I should be able to create a 3rd one down the line for my iguana without him being totally out of reach haha. Just had to be sure that 2' would be tall enough for an adult 'gu, don't need them banging their heads on the light cover!
