I recently got a new gu, about a week ago or so and I notice that when I leave for work in the morning he's still burrowed up (7 am) and when I get home around 5 PM he's bedded down again for the evening.

This weekend he was out pretty much all day from around 10 am to 3-4 or so but then beds down.

If Im not supposed to dig him out of his hide, how am I supposed to feed him? I dont want to leave food in the cage. Im using coco coir for substrate but still dont want him eating it. Also I dont want to miss out on the whole bonding thing with him associating being handled with good things (food).

What should I do? Tonight I took the rock off his burrow, I didnt know what else to do I had to feed him. I gently rubbed his tail once or twice until he woke up and stuck his head out. Then I fed him with tongs. He ate, and didnt seem all that disturbed, a little at first but nothing big I was very calm about it. Then of course when he was eating he was fine.... but I would like to get around having to dig him out of his burrow every night.

Any suggestions?
