Help! Stupid food mistake

Today, as I was chopping up my tegu's food mixture, I was mixing in cod liver oil when I thought my wife lit a scented candle. She didn't. I was unknowingly mixing MINT flavored cod liver oil to a four pound batch of tegu diet @ one tablespoon per pound. I had already used it on my first two pound batch and my baby tegu has been eating it since I got him on July 10th. He seems fine and is active and growing great. Also, his breath is minty fresh. Should I dump the whole four pound batch or just use it till it's done? BTW, the Rite Aid brand cod liver oil is mint flavored with a little rosemary in it.

When in doubt,.. throw it out. Extracts are usually made from the item itself sometimes with alcohol. But flavorings are usually artificial. So there's no telling what went into it to make it. I know when making alot of extracts they use alcohol like vodka or brandy.

You can try and dilute it, by mixing more food (w/o clo) with what you've already made. This can sometimes work but it can also back fire. Diluting it will lessen the amount or dose he gets with each feeding. Some times the smaller amounts are easier to deal with. But if the flavoring has something in it that's harmful, hard for them to digest or get rid of then it can build up over time with continued feeding. By then there's no telling what harm has been done or the out come could be, especially with out knowing what's in it.

I still have a bottle of cherry flavored clo in my cabinet. The store I got it from had a buy one get one free sell and I grabbed the wrong bottle. Didn't want to throw it out so I check to make sure that I have the right bottle when using it, which isn't often. I tried it and that stuff is still nasty even with the flavoring, well cherry any way as far as I know.

I'm sorry, but I have to say: I find the concept of a Tegu with minty fresh breath hilarious.

That being said - I would dump it.

Yes, I guess I'll dump the batch even though he ate it in his other batch with no ill effects. I don't want to take any chances. As Bubblz said, "When in doubt, throw it out". Tegu kisses will no longer be as pleasant.
