Hey everyone! I am purchasing a Black&White Arg. in July, and it is going to be a hatchling. I was wondering if I had to put it in a 40 gallon to start it off, or if I could put it right in my custom 8 foot long by 4 foot wide enclosure. Thanks for the help!

Easy. You can him in the 8 X 4 ft if you partition it so that he has room to wander but not so much as to be lost in it. Perhaps by a bit less than half? At that size, they have a lot to be scared of, and so some sense of confine is good, just make sure that he can always get away from heat. Very exciting. good luck.

Honestly, the bigger the better. Just give him/her lots of spots to hide in etc. When my girl was a hatchling and she got out she would go explore the whole apartment when she had the chance! Normally she would run around the enclosure checking everything out, and still spend every spare minute trying to get out and explore more places. In general, I think the more freedom they have to move around, and the less trapped they are, the more comfortable they feel. And the more comfortable they feel the better training goes to, in my experience.

Good luck!
