i would love to start keeping hots in the next few years. how do you guys, and gals, reccomend getting into this? how should i go about learning how to handle them?
Its kind of a jump lol. Each species acts different from the other and nothin really prepares you. I mean, I guess you could get a pissy snake like a radiated ratsnake and pretend its venomous for a while and how you would handle it (for the longer species) or like a blood python and pretend its a viper, but in all reality nothin will prepare you lol. Atleast you arent a kid asking if a false water cobra or a mangrove is a good hot for learning, lol. Definitely talk to as many keepers and see if you can shadow someone for a while. When I was younger I just kinda got into hots on my own (been owning them since I was 13). But I just used common sense and was careful. Always make a checklist to go through to check off to make sure your animals are in their cages and the cages are shut and locked. Thats one of the best advices I can give, other than never free handle a hot cause you will get nailed one day doing that lol.
In the end venomous animals are really rewarding, not so much cause its cool they have venom, but if you look at how they adapted to their environment so perfect. I like cryptic animals.
