Gave me a scare

Today my kids were wanting to see our new Tegu. So I got it out of the tank. He was calm at first then before I knew it he jumped onto the floor and ran behind some stuff. Took a few minutes but I finally caught him. I don't know who was more frightened him or me. Also they are a lot faster than I realized.

They can be extreemly quick little buggers if they want to be. Espesualy when they are bolting. Good to here that he is safe and unharmed.

Please, please, please make sure any room you handle your tegu in is "tegu proofed". We recently saw the unfortunate result of an escape. Make sure you are safe.

I remember reading about that and that definitely was going through my mind. The room has stuff he can get behind but nothing really to hurt himself on.

Just make sure he's safe, every one has there one mistake that happens, just learn from the problem and he will begin to trust you and soon you won't have to worry about him running away :)

Agreed with the others. Make sure his room is SAFE. Even when they calm down, there's still a danger, as when they're calm, they're bigger, stronger, and smarter. If there is any remote possibility for your Tegu to escape their enclosure - they will. I learned this the hard way, twice.

Be especially careful when they're between 18" and 24". They are still small enough to wiggle through tight places, just strong enough to force small openings, and just smart enough to have a bit of wanderlust.
