Hey guys I wanted to know what everyone thinks the best way to handle and tame your tegu is. I am having a hard time trying to get luna to accept me. Granted that this process takes a while and i have only had her for 2 months, but i have yet to see any progress at all. please let me hear what experiances you have had.

I would sit by Yoshi's cage and open the door and just get on my phone and play games while he basked. It took about a week for me to actually be able to open the cage without him hiding but until then I just sat by the glass so he could see me. After like 3 weeks of that he started getting curious and coming over to the door and then he started crawling on me and letting me pick him up. Just gotta experiment with different techniques

There are different things you can do, depending on who your talkint to. Lots of people have different stratigies. With my Zilla, I picked her up every day, weather she wanted me to or not. Now she doesnt mind being picked up at all, and she will relax on my lap or try to burrow under me.

As it has been said it is all about experimenting. My wife and I combined every tactic we heard of until we found a routine that really worked out in taming our Tegu. They need to see you as a positive thing not a negative. We started out by taking him out and immidietly taking him to his food dish and let him eat while holding him. He was upset by this till he realized we take him to food. After about 2 weeks of that we started taking him into the bathroom and just let him explore while we sat in there with him reading a book for an hour. (Making sure to cover any cracks he could fit through. Then after his hour long explore sessions with us we started feeding him in the bathroom. Then put him back in his cage with a t shirt we had been wearing that day so it had our scent. Eventually he started climbing all over us. One of his favorite spots was on top of my wife's head. Then we integrated handling with food. After we handled him for awile he got food. Till your tegu is comfortable and no longer has any ill will toward you. It takes a lot of time and work but it really is half the fun of raising your tegu just like a kid. Then they become older and lazy and you are begging them to come out of their cage to come explore a bit. Lol
Hope this helps

What worked for me ! Clinched fist in the tank by the basking spot and pretend to sleep, make sure he can see your eyes are shut, he should eventually come over and have a nap right next to your fist, it's a start !! Good luck, worth a try !!
