Baking wood?

some pieces of wood fell off our tree a couple days ago and i wanted to get some opinions how i would clean them before putting it in the cage.
I've heard about baking them but i want to make sure.

Some people bake em, some pour boiling water, some just hose them off.
Personally I just hose em off if there's no real nooks and crannies for anything to get into. I'm sure not everyone will agree that that is ok but w/e I've never had a problem from "pests" "disease" etc etc etc and I've been doing this a long time.

baking is good but sometimes there is not enought room in the oven. so you can leave in a tub full of like a 5% bleach solution but hosing could be just as good.

I don't mean to threat jack, but since it is kinda on topic I'll just ask here instead of making a new thread.

How do you all clean/disinfect the substrate, such as cyprus mulch?

I always used redwood mulch (no cypress here) for tegus.
I would just dump it in. Now with my lacertas I use top soil, same thing just dump it in. Never had any problems from doing so.

i didnt know you could use redwood mulch. no issue with the wood mites like you get with cypress?
