Babies and Climbing

I know that most neonates of large lizard species stay in tree until they are large enough to have fewer predators to worry about. So I was wondering would a grow up cage(until he is about two feet) like this http://www.varanus.net/forums/read.php?2,30776,30776#msg-30776 be suitable for a baby tegu?

When mine was a baby, he had stuff to climb on, but mostly just dug or stayed on the ground.

Yes, it depends on the tegu but some climb more than others. As you mentioned they are the same as other lizards who are more arboreal when young. I have one of the exoterra terrariums that I used for my tegus when they were little. The foam wall decoration that comes with it had to be removed because they were shredding it after a while from climbing up it.

I think I still have photos of it with Tricky (AA) on photobucket,... not a good shot but this was the enclosure.

On the right was a magnetic ledge for a basking spot, that he could climb up on. When he was smaller he used the wall to climb up on to it.

On the left was a water fall that I found him sleeping behind quite often.
