i been looking up videos and one guy who is guess is very experienced with savys say to leave em alone for a month....you would think you should interact with them within the first week right? leaving em a lone seems like it would just take longer for them for you to start taming them.idk just my opinion.

i handled mine almost right away. it had been handled daily before i got it. i didn't pick it up the first day but i spend some time with my hands inside the enclosure. the second day it let me pick it up and its been fine with me since then.

i whould let evry lizard alone for a while except for feeding and cleaning i mean they whil trust you but it takes time and should never be forced i personaly dont belive in taming lizards we got ennuf domestic animals to choose from to be tame pets but u got lizards that r fearless of humans and whit time they learn u whill not harm them so they whont get stressed when u handle m

um if you dont handle an animal how is it supposed yo get it used to you. we barely have any domesticated animals.a few more wont help.people get pets and companions and they expect them to want to be handled without getting there skin tore off.i think we shold domesticate as many animals as we can.

yeah it does sound rude!!! and i dont....lol j/k feeding dog kibble? no i dont expect them to be dog tame.and im guessing a few of the tame ones get breed but more prolly are untame and breed, and again if yo dont handle an animal it is never going to get tame or trust you.it may stress them out but thats just something you have to deal with.

whell since 99% of these animals r wildcaugth ore captive hatched dont u think priorety nr 1 should be establisment of a decent breeding colony so non have to be removed from the wild ? another thing is evryone sees tame difrent sum see as they dont run away and hide and a animal that can be handledwhitout gloves others want to walk it on a leash and whut not i gues the price is to low on these animals like many other decent size reptiles so to manny idiots get involved in keeping these just to say they have a monitor :crazy

my savy was only $30, $150 with a 40 gallon tank, lights, hides, substrate, 2 heating pads, some bugs and the lizard. the lizards themselves are pretty cheap and a lot of people don't realize they're going to be decent sized and require a deal of work. there was someone on CL a few weeks ago here that had gotten a savy and once they realized how work it really took to keep tame they decided to get rid of it.

what is your big problem with lizards being removed from the wild? there are a number of cases with it being beneficial to them in some way.but i do agree i dont want great numbers of them being taken from the wild.o and tame is prety much what RHETORICx said.tame being human tolerant.

my problem is just that people think savs r nice and easy to keep pets and if u look at 90 % of the vivs they been kept in u see they look like **** most r desert vivs whit no moist hide ore no place to dig holes at all almost all r fed the wrong food items that r not even close of whut they eat in the wild i mean 1 mice aevry 2 weeks migth not hurt m but making it a staple food item ? i think monitor wise they r the most abused animals in the trade and there for i hate to see more getting abused just because they r cheap and sumone wants a tame monitor to show off :bang :crazy :doh

Frost no ones saying don't handle your Sav at all, just to give it a break and let it settle in. Every pet takes its own time to adjust some faster than others. There's no exact set period of time, 2 weeks of handling and on the 15th day its tame,.. :grno not gonna happen. For the ones you see that are tame and handle able you can guarantee that someone put a lot of time and effort into it for it to be and stay that way.

Too many people buy pets for the wrong reason only to find out they are more hands on than they thought and it takes more work than they want to put in. There's no cookie cutter, set and bake time limit to Nirvana. When they finally realize it they get rid of it or it dies, which makes them harder for people to sell and prices drop.

If you can't understand that and your not willing to take time and put in the effort then you shouldn't have pets period. Or stick with an indigenous Ant Farm, Crickets or something that doesn't require a lot and can be released in the back yard when your done.

If you're willing to do so then take peoples advice, hands off for a while and give the Sav time to settle in. During this period you can also spend time just sitting next to its enclosure with or with out your hand inside to get it use to seeing and or smelling you. It needs time to figure out that you're not a threat or predator trying to eat it.

Use slow movements when ever you're doing anything around it, take time to clean and rearrange the enclosure with out trying to touch or pick it up. All of this helps it get use to you, your scent and being inside its enclosure with out feeling threatened.

When it calms down then you can move on to holding it for short periods of time inside the enclosure and later outside. It's not going to be easy, it hardly ever is, there's going to be good days and bad. But stick with it ;) and you'll see the improvements.
