I have a few question about ackies. Where can I buy them from a good breeder? Are red or yellow ackies more expensive? How many can be paired together? In a 4x2x2 cage...

kingsnake.com or local show reds can be more expensive but i find them to be a little mellower and nicer looking. my favorite is the western reds. id put a pair in that size cage maybe a trio at most.

Yeah I was looking at the reds and they look awesome. How much do the western red cost on average? Do you know of any well known breeders in the states at all?

I know a few, the price of reds is 250-300 each for babies depending on how many you buy. You can fit at most a trio in there but you should make it a 6x2x3 (LWH) so they have some room and you will be able to put a foot of dirt in there for them.
Krusty might have some

if he doesn't try pro exotics or just wait.

I know of a breeder in Utah. He puts ads on <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.varanus.net/forums/list.php?5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.varanus.net/forums/list.php?5</a><!-- m --> when he has them.

I forget the name of the guy who bought out Rare Earth's varanid collection but if you can track him down (probably easier by searching around for breeders of pure Varanus tristis ssp. and he will show up). I believe he breeds true red ackies. Most in collections now adays (even people who claim theirs are pure) are mixed with yellows. I believe yellows are cheaper however. If you can get a hold of TRUE/PURE red ackies they are absolutely gorgeous. If you are looking for quality, go for pure (anybody with true pure red ackies is going to have quality animals) and ask the breeders for information on their bloodline/lineage and see if you can even trace them back to wc parents and do as much research as possible to see if they are legit. Pro-exotics seems to be a good company but I do tend to have a little doubt towards them about purity of some of their stuff.

We got our ackie at a reptile store on Long Island. Cost us 250. He's calm, falls asleep on us when we watch TV at night. Not sure what type he is, people we got him from say he could be a red x yellow. My boyfriend has fallen in love with him and thats a guy who I never thought would love any reptile other then crested geckos and lechies.
