Okay thanks for the info, and by the way I actually always have fed him outside the cage, and he got impacted by accidently eating a stick/twig in the cypress mulch he use to be in. As long as this is safer than mulch and about as safe as shredded paper I think I will try it. Thanks for the help.
I was reading online and it says the eco earth is not digestible and can cause impaction, so I was wondering when you said it doesn't cause impaction did you mean it just hasn't caused impaction for any of your animals?
I was wondering if there were any good non-impactible substrates besides paper, because my tegu has currently only been on paper since he got impacted (around 6 months) and I dont want to take a risk, but I want a better looking substrate because currently his cage looks very ugly.
Just thought I'd put an update up on my Argentine Black and White Tegu I bought from Rose Childers in July.
He is currently 32" and just finished his shed today. Lately he has been spending around 5-6 hours out everyday (from 3pm-8/9pm) and hates having to stay in his cage.

I had a question about my tegus sleep pattern, is it okay for him to go to bed at 3 PM and then wake up and 6 or 7 AM, or should i be worried he is going to bed so early. He has been doing this for 4 days straight so it isnt just a random one day thing.
Well aparrantly he just didnt like that shirt because I switched out the shirts and as you can see he likes this one much better. He ended up almost falling asleep in the shirt it was so cute.
Yesterday I tried the method of taming by letting them get use to your scent through your t-shirt in thier cage, and today I watched my tegu try bite and scratch at the shirt as if it were food. Is this normal or does he think my scent means food?
My new tegu also hated the feeding box/tub and would spaz out everytime he was in it, but I found out he doesnt spaz much if at all if he is feeding in a empty 10 gallon aquarium with newspaper on the floor, so I thought I'd let you know this, hope it helps.
Okay well we found out it was completely hunger because he finally ate a full meal (of ground beef). We found out he wasn't liking the other foods as much, now after eating he is completely chill and can be picked up without any trouble. Also your right about testing out if its food, because he...
