I've been lurking and observing for a while now, and I thought I might as well add my story. I had heard nothing but praise about Varnyard when I decided last year (after months of saving and research) that I was ready to get a tegu. (Note: When I sent the first payment I didn't know anything...
You're not! It's nice that we're finally enjoying some temperatures below triple digits, but it stinks that they're still not under 90. Boo. Someone told me the forecast for today said it was supposed to be around 95 and my first thought was "oh, it's going to be nice and cool outside today!"
I don't have an answer, but thanks for sharing that information! Hopefully he will get the recipe on his website updated soon so that others can know as well.
I always love hearing about the new foods people are offering their tegus. I imagine someone standing in their kitchen, looking around at all the goodies they bought that day, and thinking proudly to themselves, "I am a master tegu chef." Looking forward to seeing the video!
I know the feeling! Californian here, and I was so excited for the wait to finally be over and then BAM! Heatwave. But a delay is far better than an ill or dead tegu on my front porch. I get enough dead critters on my porch already thanks to my cats...
When I shared one with my friends, one of them described it as tasting like "a cross between mango and onion." The one we ate didn't smell very much at all, and even then the smell wasn't unpleasant, so maybe we just got a good/bad one.
I'm so sorry for your loss. It's always a hard decision to make, even when it's for the best. Thankfully you were able to provide him with a good, caring home and I'm sure he lived a happy life with you!
Welcome! I'm pretty new, too. Been lurking for several months but only started posting recently.
Do you have any pictures handy? I'm sure everyone here would love to see Zelda and Macintosh!
No wonder they liked it; durian is delicious! Granted, I've only had it once, but I have been looking for a place to get another. And now getting food for the tegu is yet another reason for me to find a local one!
