I just noticed the same tiny white bugs crawling everywhere! They are crawling on my tegu also when she comes out to bask. I freaked out, because I though they were mites! They crawl pretty fast. I bought some new substrate and am going to clean her entire enclosure in the morning if she comes...
For the shedding you can soak him in some slightly warm water every day for 10 to 20 minutes. Don't make the water too deep, he could possibly drown. I do this with my yearling when she's shedding and the dead skin comes off really well.

I just finished reading the book "Lizard Man" about the life of Bert Langerwerf. He was a great herper. It's sad that his reputation and dedication to reptiles is slowly fading away.

Even though these Tegus may have missing tails and limbs, I believe they still deserve to have a home rather than be discarded because they're flawed.

I made my enclosure out of 3/8" plywood, 1" x 2"s and 2" x 4"s. I tried to make it so it wasn't too heavy, but since it ended up being 6' long 3' tall and 3' wide it still ended up being somewhat heavy. I was able to move it by myself though. I actually made it wider but had to cut it down...
Have you shown her some of the videos that several members have posted on YouTube? Some of the videos show how dog-tame the Tegus can be, and some even show the Tegus will seek your attention. Maybe that would convince her?

My Tegu, Tank, does the same thing. It's like he's moving the food down his throat. I've seen snakes do this also. Tank wipes his mouth after he eats also. Nothing to be worried about.
