Teeny Tiny white bugs in substrate... Bad or not a problem?

I just noticed the same tiny white bugs crawling everywhere! They are crawling on my tegu also when she comes out to bask. I freaked out, because I though they were mites! They crawl pretty fast. I bought some new substrate and am going to clean her entire enclosure in the morning if she comes...

    Attack Tegu

For the shedding you can soak him in some slightly warm water every day for 10 to 20 minutes. Don't make the water too deep, he could possibly drown. I do this with my yearling when she's shedding and the dead skin comes off really well.

Agama international now making youtube vids?

I agree that reptile owners should share their bad experiences with others. I just finished reading the book "Lizard Man" about the life of Bert Langerwerf. He was a great herper. It's sad that his reputation and dedication to reptiles is slowly fading away.

Agama international now making youtube vids?

If that "someone" didn't want that box of "junk" they should not have BOUGHT them. I would have handed the box back to them and said, no thank you, and turned and walked away. For a person to purchase this "junk" of his or her own free will, and then turn around and complain about it is not...

Agama international now making youtube vids?

DaveDragon, just curious, how do you know this? You know who they were sold to? Even though these Tegus may have missing tails and limbs, I believe they still deserve to have a home rather than be discarded because they're flawed. Just the opinion of a hopeless animal lover.....

    ideas for enclosures

I forgot to mention I put a color matched vent on each end of the enclosure. Now that I'm pouring water straight into the substrate and mixing it all up, the humdity level stays higher. The misting was just a never-ending job. It took forever to get the substrate moist all the way through. Of...

    ideas for enclosures

I made my enclosure out of 3/8" plywood, 1" x 2"s and 2" x 4"s. I tried to make it so it wasn't too heavy, but since it ended up being 6' long 3' tall and 3' wide it still ended up being somewhat heavy. I was able to move it by myself though. I actually made it wider but had to cut it down...

    Help a guy out!

Have you shown her some of the videos that several members have posted on YouTube? Some of the videos show how dog-tame the Tegus can be, and some even show the Tegus will seek your attention. Maybe that would convince her? Good luck! They really are great lizards!

Nice pictures! I love "mosquito hawks" . That's what we call them here.

Organized hunts for large non-native snakes being discussed

I agree with you 100% laurarfla! Seems like what starts out as a interesting idea always ends up screwed up as soon as a politician steps in! And you are also right about the storms causing many of the accidental releases. I also can't see people flocking to the Florida everglades just to...

    why are tegus so awesome?

Yeah Anthony, I was wanting a big lizard and was thinking along the lines of an iguana or monitor. While I was doing research on them I saw a show on Animal Planet that showed some Tegus. That was it, I started reading about Tegus and just had to have one! After I saw some of the videos by the...

Strange Behavior??? should i be worried?

My Tegu, Tank, does the same thing. It's like he's moving the food down his throat. I've seen snakes do this also. Tank wipes his mouth after he eats also. Nothing to be worried about. I was also worried when I first saw this behavior!
