I think 2 would be too much. This also doubles the UVB exposure, so you need to make sure he isn't getting too much UVB. At 12" my Tegu getting is getting 53 microwatts of UVB exposure. Doubling it at 12" would mean a 100 because the beams of UVB overlap that close.
I wouldn't trust the tree. I'd be scared he'd climb and be too scared to come down and fall of or something of the sorts. There not much into climbing anyhow. Plants would be nice too look at, as long as he wouldn't rip them up or eat them.
I think he knows that, hence posting in the "Boids and Pythonidae" section.
But your right on the information part, sure he isn't just about to shed? I wouldn't know though, I'm not into snakes...
It's best not to house together at all. But if you do, build a LARGE enclosure with multiple basking and hiding areas. This will prevent territorial aggression. Also, introduce on neutral ground. If they don't like each other there, they certainly wont in a enclosure.
They may be like little puppies, but they require a large enclosure, one that would often dwarf the size of many other cages. They also eat like pigs. They can become quite expensive upon first purchasing everything.
Tegu - $150
Lifetime Cage - $200 (Good one)
Substrate - $30...
