It's funny that you mention that. I take both my gu's outside on the porch and let them lay in my lap and I've been craped on once before. I still let them lay in my lap, but now I can tell when they are getting ready to crap and just pick the up and hold them or the grass in the lawn and let...
I'm no expert but recently I had my gu out and was feeding him a small rat. I also had out the rat that I was going to feed my boa with, which is a jumbo rat. My gu instead ran over to the bigger rat (which is way too big for him) and started biting it and shaking it trying to rip it apart...

Here is a great food list for tegus. Adding rodents to your gu's diet will help also.

As long as they are similar in size yes.
But before making you're decision you should consider this....
All tegus do not get along with other tegus (depends on personality) especially if both are males.
Also are you prepared to house another adult tegu if they can't live together.
