I thought dubias were supposedly at a good phosphorous/calcium ratio?

Did you have any live prey that he maybe dove at and missed? How big is he?

Care Plan and Ideas - Advice request

You might try googling exotic vets rather than reptile? Additionally, if you’re comfortable disclosing your location someone in the recommendations forum might know of a good vet that is not necessarily listed as ‘reptile.’ If there is a veterinary school nearby, you might check there and ask...

    Basking Spot

Hey guys! We’ve got a custom enclosure made out of a modified 55 gallon tipped on its side. The CHE slides in and out as the third wall, and the temp gradient runs from 100 right by the CHE to 75 at the other end. UVB light is right above the CHE so the warmest spot is also the UVB spot. The CHE...

    Temperature question

Might throw in a tub of water and keep it changed out with cool water during the middle of the day so he can take a dip if need be.

    Temperature question

Like Zyn said, as long as you’re getting some temperature gradient throughout the day, and as long as he has a little shady spot to thermoregulate in, Florida is clearly a place where Tegus thrive lmao so I’d just watch temps and bring him inside if it gets super hot.

Baby Tegu - what veggies or fruits???

A general rule of thumb is if you wouldn’t feed it to your baby, you can’t feed it to the tegu. I think canned would probably be fine but make sure you check for BPA in the packaging. Not sure if BPA is a problem for reptiles but best to be safe. Also check the list of ingredients. If you can’t...

Tegu Pricing and Over Seas Shipping

As for overseas shipping, I would not risk it unless you know of people who have purchased from this breeder before and received their shipments in good health. Recommendations are everything. I would encourage you to find a breeder somewhere in Europe, but I am also a Nervous Nelly about...

Tegu Pricing and Over Seas Shipping

Hey! I am not sure as to the actual reason, but Columbians are less popular as pets due to their being notoriously more skittish. Because they are cheaper, they often end up with first time tegu owners who aren’t equipped to deal with their more high strung personalities. Most Columbians are not...

    Terrible owner here!

Honestly, our columbian bit a little at first and my husband just let him do it. He’d chomp down and get no reaction, and eventually seemed to figure out we weren’t food or danger. It’s one of those things that is mildly painful but if you can repress your instinct to jump away, it seems to...

    feed live or dead?

My rule of thumb is that once it graduates beyond eating the fuzzies (eyes barely open, little to no claws), I do pre killed. I don’t kill my own anymore after a traumatic incident where I failed entirely to off the poor thing - several times. At that point it’s more humane to feed live. My bp...

    Søren Training Journal

We’ve set a number of traps with eggs as bait. Not super hopeful but who knows. Stranger things have happened. I guess the biggest question is when do we say enough is enough and let him go? It feels wrong to even consider giving up but the odds of finding him again are slim. And then, of...

    Søren Training Journal

Today was a really awful day. We had taken Søren to the vet and stopped to feed a turtle and some dogs we were pet sitting. Cameron decided to carry the little guy rather than leave him in the car as it’s 93 degrees here and we weren’t sure how long it would be. I’m sure you can see where...

First time Tegu setup - Any Thoughts?

Our gu stays buried from about 5p.m. til 1 p.m. the next day, so 7-7 is probably fine haha.
