Well, I ordered 8 bags of this stuff from my local pet store. I like to help them whenever possible with my orders. After opening just three out of the eight bags so far, I've found:

- A string with a screw attached
- A bunch of styrofoam
- Here's the kicker: A full pine cone (picture attached).

WTF? I sent them a message, but these guys are going to get sued if an animal takes sick because of this... I'm not the litigious type at all, but I spend a lot of dough and time (and love) on my Tegu, skink and beardie. If this hurt them, I'd be very peeved.

Buyer beware: sift your mulch out there. I'll be looking for another source of cypress in California. Ordering mail order is way too expensive (shipping costs)... Maybe Eucalyptus is a better way to go.

Best,
-AD

There's someone else who has bought this stuff and found all sorts of shiny metal objects.

I would just stay away from the product. He also contacted Zoo Med, maybe he'll post here.

Yeh sifting threw substrate would always be a good prevention of problems since we have no way of knowing the conditions they were packaged. A bunch of times I find little rocks in the mulch i buy from Exo Terra.
