I'm sure a good amount of you have ordered from reptile depot. I have only ordered from them once, and it ended very badly.

I purchased a tailless whipscorpion for 25 dollars. For those of you that don't know what it is, here's a pic. http://animal-world.com/encyclo/reptile ... p_AP7I.jpg

Anyways, I took it home, put it in a PERFECT setup, and it was dead within 2 days. I called them, and they would not give me a refund. I had the receipt and everything. Not only that, the employee on the phone had a freak out and started yelling.

Well, I met them again at another reptile expo, and they finally agreed to give me a refund of 15 of the 25 dollars. The only thing they had there for 15 or under was a small striped lizard, but only 1 employee knew what it was. They did not know how to care for it, but they gave me the scientific name; Holaspis guentheri. Well, I researched a bit, set it up fine, and even offered it a few crickets, it mowed them down in a second. The next day it was dead. They wouldn't give me ANY refund, or store credit.

I won't be shopping there again any time soon.

I've seen them again a few times, they don't seem to remember me. :? I don't know, maybe I just caught them on a bad day.

They probably dont breed their own tegus. It's most likely wholesaling.

As far as those scorpion things goes, I'm sorry to hear that. Ive never bought from them, but each inquiry makes me think twice.

Thanks

PS (Werent those on fear factor once? People had to eat them at a casino or something?)

Yes, they were. It was kind of upsetting. They also had to eat Hissing roaches (Which I own) and Camel Spiders (Which I have owned).

But then again, what animals haven't they eaten on fear factor?

Actually, i do not know if they breed them or not but, i know they have "snows" , Albinos, and hets from the same clutch.

No affence but, i hate fear factor....They kinda ruind it for me when they put live insects and scorpions into a blender...ALIVE! They might not be humans and the cutest things....but they still are a living creature non the less and to me that was wrong and crule!

I have heard numerous bad things about them.
I remember a year or two ago at an expo seeing several varanids at their table with ticks on them, they looked severely dehydrated and just in bad shape.

Anyone who sells reptiles will have a bad deal at one time or another. You can't control what animals have been through before you get your hands on them. Some wholesalers are good, some bad, some retail stores are good, some bad. some people who breed reptiles are good, some bad and whenever dealing with WC animals such as whip scorpions and holaspis there is no doubt they were in horrid conditions before being exported/imported.

by the way, was this holsaspis picked up at the recent sac expo?
If I remember correctly they had some at their table there for $15 bucks

No, it was picked up a few months ago. Yeah, I agree that you can't usually blame the company if they sell wcs. What really bothered me was their horrible customer service. One employee started having a breakdown on the other line after asking to return the scorpion.

I've only dealt with them in the store and honestly I've had nothing but great experiences with them.

i'll start with my snake Ari a male ball python.
He was tick free and while a bit thin he is eating great and very handleable, he is very tolerant of me and has never shown any signs of agression.
The guy there who sold him to me turned into a good friend after only 2 visits and makes going back a pleasure every time. We chat on the weekends when I cant make it to the store etc.
My snake wouldnt eat a mouse (it was a bit too big i think for him) so i went back the next day and we sat there for about an hour and a half waiting for him to eat a fuzzy which he did eventually. they comped the fuzzy which isnt really a big deal as its 1.00 but they could have just as easily charged me.

I purchased my red tegu from them and again had a great experience and got really hooked up when buying him and his supplies. My Cin is hibernating so I cant really comment as he went into hibernation a few hours after bringing him home (although i think he was already hibernating at the store).

I plan to buy from them again and its the only place i go for my feeders.

EDIT: although I will add that the employees dont really go out of their way to be nice unless they seem to recognize you. they are more about selling then customer service if you are just the average joe walk in. Besides the one employee who i made friends with the other are finally starting to recognize me and be a bit more friendly.

I once bought an adult female "Sorong" GTP from Reptile Depot about 4yrs ago and not only did they give me 2 different prices... they sold her to me as cb. She came in loaded with mites and later on fecal examination showed Fluke worm. She was also very dehydrated (usually a good indication that she was not cb...) and they wouldn't give me a refund of any sort.. Very bad business. In person I have seen them and I think they are more into themselves than the reptiles. lol.
