Hi , it’s with a heavy heart I post this.
we had our Argentinian black and white for 4 years.
out of the blue his tail ruptured.
it was like it popped from inside out?
we made the mistake of assuming it would fall off / heal naturally?
It did fall off , now we sit and see if will heal , hopefully grow back
yes . Give me hell.
we don’t have 2000$ to take to vet.
Also saw if it’s amputated and stitched it won’t regenerate?
it’s very hard to find any info on this delicate subject.
We love him . And I don’t know if his particular tail “ death” is even fixable.
not rot . Not attacked by other animals.
just ruptured. And started dying.
here’s photos.
again please don’t hate me for being bad parent.
we Honestly can’t figure out what caused this.
graphic photos.
thank you.

I'm sorry, all I can offer you is my sympathy. I don't know anything about this subject. But I DO know that you MUST keep it clean. For the time being, take out the substrate and keep him on paper towels. It looks to me like he got it caught in a door or something like that. Until you can get to the vet, treat it like you would treat an injury on you. Keep it clean and apply some antibiotic first aid cream. Hopefully someone who knows more about this will chime in soon.

I am not a pro at owning a tegu I only have a year old tegu but his tail fell off a few months back, if you don’t know for but tegus have break plates like geckos, if it does fall off, it might fall of at a break plate and grow back, but you might just end up having a odd tegu. just keep a very close eye on it and if it seems to get worse bring him to the vet

I doubt it would be $2000 at the vet. You don't stitch a dropped tail. A vet visit to make sure there is no infection and to figure out why the tail dropped could be a good idea. I took my big tegu to the vet yesterday. The bill was $130 including medications.
