Best way to preserve 40 year old snake skin.

hi! So I was just gifted a huge diamond back rattlesnake skin that has been in our family for 40 years. The skin is very brittle, and I am afraid to unravel it. Any ideas on how to best preserve it? It is shed, not hide. I really want it stretched out so bad I can hang it over my reptile room :) Thanks
