At Home Critical Care after MBD and Prolapse

I have had my guy barely a month now and he came to me in rough shape (bad MBD to the point of affecting his spine, walking and eating and severe dehydration) after a cheap dog food only diet. He’s about 1yr 3mo and yesterday as we were going to get xrays he ended up prolapsing and was hospitalized with a cloacal prolapse from suspected parasites. This guy will barely touch meat and trust me we’ve tried just about every meat/egg under the sun as well as has no hunting response for small animals/insects. After speaking with multiple people I was told to put him on an insect slurry after I brought him home last night- Hornworms, XL Dubias and pedialyte blended in a blender and Calcium/Supplements added as needed as well as recommended to get liquid Calcium Glubionate for increased supplementation boost. He’s definitely been more interested in the slurry and ate a little bit last night and today but seeing that CSU recommend cat food and Oxbox CC on another post I’m more inclined to try that as well. Does anyone have recommendations for insect slurry vs Oxbow CC? Or any additional ideas? He’s such a sweet guy and I have him in a smaller “hospital tank” for now so I can monitor better as well as him being unable to move long distances. I was told to put 2 different UVB bulbs on him for now as I have both (Reptisun and Aracia) but there was also controversy on ideal basking/cool temp due to him needing a smaller tank and being unable to move much. I was told to play around with 86degrees F but I know recommended basking nowadays is between 105-115F so I’m not sure the ideal temp to keep him at as he gains his strength. He doesn’t have any interest in his water dish but I’ve been soaking him daily in lukewarm water with a small amount of pedialyte added. Any addition recommendations for rehab would be highly appreciated. I have 2 different appointments with reptile vets in the area but the soonest he could get in was mid-next month so I would love pointers until he can be seen by a specialist.

Have you tried Repti-Links, or frozen/thawed mice? Poor guy - I feel sorry for him, but it seems like your giving him some good attention. I don't know anything about the insect slurry vs. Oxbow CC....not even sure what the latter is? One thing I noticed though was you mentioned his basking was at 105-115dg, and I'm thinking at his age that sounds pretty good, but maybe best toward the high side.

Is he on meds for the parasites?
