    Feeding mice type question

My tegu also loves scratches at the base of her tail, she really pushes up into those! And shoulder massages make her go completely limp. She's full grown now, and can easily handle 2 adult mice for a meal, which she gets about once a week. So far no problems. Unfortunately all roaches are...

    Please help!

It sounds like you're doing the right things. I didn't have the same issue so someone else here will likely have better suggestions. I don't think you can leave him alone, he still has to come out and eat, socialize, and stretch his legs!

    Please help!

Doesn't sound like a food response then! It might just be guberty if he's that age. Is he lunging when still inside his cage? If so maybe find a way to let him come out on his own for now, or if you have to, to get through guberty you could throw a small towel over him and pick him up in...

    Please help!

There are debates about feeding inside or outside of the enclosure. I feed outside and it hasn't been a problem, personally. If he is mistaking your hand for food, I'm not sure what else to try, other than trying to avoid him seeing your hand near the food. Maybe try changing the routine so...

    Heating advice needed

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I'm in a situation where the room temperature varies greatly as well. I have a smaller enclosure, under 2x1m, and it's mostly acrylic around which doesn't insulate as well as wood. I put blankets over the top as well, that helped a lot for my setup...

    Please help!

Perhaps he is starting to associate your hand with food? If he knows he's coming out to get food and recognizes your hand he may go for it. Are you tong feeding? Have you tried letting him roam a bit for giving food?

    Interesting Behaviors....(opinions?)

Especially when she was younger, my tegu would make a huge mess of her enclosure if she was trying to get out of it. Often it's not clear why she wanted out, usually it was to explore or find somewhere else to sleep when her enclosure wasn't good enough for her. Soon enough she learned how to...

    Building a barricade?!

Yup, my tegu does that to. And yes they definitely like to feel secure under something nice and weighty to! Mine always thinks the best place to sleep would be underneath me!

Convincing Her to Open Her Mouth

That's a good idea, I'll give it a try thanks!

Convincing Her to Open Her Mouth

Wow I haven't been on this forum for a while! My tegu has an infection in her gums on one side of her mouth. I've taken her to the vet and gotten antibiotics to give her. At first she would happily open her mouth to get it cleaned out and to apply the antibiotics. She seemed to even like...

Good idea. I need to get a meter too so I'm not guessing.

    New tegu owner

She was keeping her eyes closed or half closed a lot, just like dpjm suggested. At first I thought maybe she was just sleepier than usual, but she even had them half closed while walking around the house. Fortunately it cleared up quickly after I switched bulbs.

My experience with PowerSun and Megaray is that the PowerSun puts out much more heat, but less UV light. I usually use a 160W Powersun, and in the summer that is more than enough to heat up the platform ~12" away. In the winter the ceramic heat bulb beside it also kicks in. I tried a 100W...

    Keeping Substrate Humid

I've always found cypress mulch holds humidity well. It sounds like you're managing ok, and my only suggestion might be to cover the whole top in a plastic sheet. Regarding turning the tank on its' side, I wanted to point out that glass filters most UV light, so you would need to make sure the...

    Your tegu’s favorite veggie?

My tegu loves eggs, so if I put egg yolk on the fruits and veggies she will eat it happily. She still has her favorites; for example she will never leave a piece of pineapple behind, and other things she's less keen on. Gary, I'm not sure how old your tegu is but one thing to keep in mind is...
