Weekly, monthly, yearly costs to consider?

The heat for me living in upstate NY is around 10-15 bucks a month depending on the season and what I'm running. Right now my tegu is only about a year so the cost is really cheap for food. The biggest concern ive found keeping reptiles is always having some money for the vet because once...

    Fire in Cage

I recently had a fire in my tegu terrarium. It lit up half of the six foot aquarium and spider webbed the whole end. I think it was from the 60 watt ceramic shorting out because the 125 watt halogen was still on and working fine. I was wondering if anyone has ever had this issue before because I...

nothing changed but the enclosure and tegu's attitude

Idk how long it has been but my tegu is almost a year old and she had a couple weeks where she was the same way and would bite anything I put in the cage. Now she is still a little more jumpy than usual but seems much better. I did a little research and it seems like it is normal for a tegu this...

    Rex & Bella picture update

Is straw a good substrate for tegus? I've seen that in a few pics and that would be really cheap for me and seems like it would be easy to clean

    Hibernation

My Argentine ate and then I haven't seen her since. I'm guessing she's hibernating but I'm nervous that the food could be rotting. It has been two or three weeks, she had one fuzzy and is four or so months old ( pretty small/slow grower)

    Important question

My bulb is hanging right in the cage and I have three heights probably close to 6,8, and 10 inches

    Important question

A wide range of foods are good, so some of both would be good and if you can get the bulb with no screen that would be good because mesh can cut 50% of light , how close is the light anything over a foot is almost useless 6-8 inches is ideal

    Bugs on rocks in substrate

I have some little gray bugs and there is quite a lot of them... They seem to be clustered in the crevasses of the rocks in the cage (too small for my phone to get a good pic). They don't look like mites they are oval not round but about the same size. I'm just wondering if they will bother the...
