    Help w blowing bulbs!

Line voltage averages 120v, but it can be 110-135 depending on how far down the line you are. The higher the voltage, the brighter and shorter the bulb life.

    Cage size

I made a platform across half the top, so the 4x8 kinda turns into a 4x12 since he now has a 4x4 cave to dig in, and then come out to a 4x4 elevated basking area. You could do the same with a 6x6.

    The Teenage Phase

Yup, last year you couldnt pick him up unless he was under something, if he was out and about he would just run. This year now that he is 10 pounds, you can pick him up whenever, hes like a butterball turkey.

Tegu Bite - Keeping it real...

Yea i remember when my male was only like 1.5lbs. I tried to feed him a dubia by holding the wings. It didnt go well... My thought pattern was "well hes only a little bigger than a beardy".

    How To Approach This---New Tegu

Does "water taming" work on just argentines? If not that would be worth a shot. Though then you have to be in a bath tub with a rabid tegu...

    Heat sources for enclosures

As long as day temps are fine(above 65f), and night temps are in the low 50's you should be good with just the basking spot(above 100f). Even if a night hits say 45, it will do it for like an hour, and odds are inside temp will still be in the 50s or higher. There are plenty of "out door"...

    Lost!

Mines always behind a board, or under a pile of cloths. he is never under a bed or under furniture. Im guessing she is "in" the couch. You could always put out hides and check them daily. Just lay some 4ft long pieces of plywood along the wall. Mine loves the wide selection of 8ft pieces...

    Heat sources for enclosures

Are you putting it in an Alaskan 3 seasons room, or In between the house and garage in Arizona City? Kinda need to know the conditions outside the cage before you can start compensating inside the cage.

    Tegu ban??

Up here we got invaded by japanese beetles. Then one day the sparrows woke up and realized they are food. Boom no more beetle problem. So someone needs to teach the 3ft tegus than baby iguanas are yummy, and to tell all their friends. Then maybe we will achieve homeostasis again. PS tegus...

    basking area ideas

OK i was under the impression the optimal tegu digestive temp was basically a dog/cat internal temp of a bit over 100f. That is easy to do with a 1lb beardy, but getting Mr tegu up to that temp is like defrosting a turkey.

    basking area ideas

Im having a hard time getting the 2.5ft basking area above 90f. Right now im running 4 40 watt halogens at a 45 degree angle (to encourage hanging out under the 42" arcadias) and a 18x12 30 watt " outdoor pet heating pad" under some slate. Im not sure how to get the air temps to 110+ in the...

    Toho the tegu's enclosure

This is going to be hilarious once they are 3ft long and can really dig :) its going to be like someone took a roto tiller to the place.

    Red tegu claws look weird!?!?!

As someone who rescued a red who had shed problems and lost toes, you have bigger problems than just "humidity" and stuck sheds. As others have stated, soaks and lotion is not going to fix the problem. If you dont get a vet visit soon, you will end up at the next step, which is swelling and...
